Let’s Start at the Beginning
For over 75 years, West End Racing Children’s Community Sailing has been more than a summer program—it’s been a rite of passage for over 11,000 children who have learned to sail, race, and learn water safety in a non-hazardous yet supportive environment. Through this uniquely immersive experience, young sailors have developed not only maritime skills but also qualities that serve them for life: self-reliance, responsibility, leadership, a sense of fair competition, and deep appreciation for our marine environment.
The Future of WERCCS
While we honor our past, we are also looking to the future. In the face of rising sea levels, we are undertaking essential capital improvements to the WERCCS Training Center in October 2026, including replacing the bulkhead and restoring the historic boathouse. These upgrades are vital to preserving the integrity of our waterfront and ensuring we can continue this tradition of excellence for generations to come.

The Commodore Award
The Commodore Award is the organization's highest annual honor, recognizing individuals whose vision, leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment have helped shape the legacy of West End Racing Children's Community Sailing and strengthened the Provincetown community. Presented each year at the WERCCS Annual Celebration, the award honors those whose lives have changed the course of our organization through exceptional service, mentorship, humility, and dedication to future generations. As Executive Director Arthur "AJ" Santos explains, "The Commodore Award honors those whose lives have changed the course of our organization and our community." The selection of Francis "Flyer" Anthony Santos as the inaugural recipient establishes the standard for all who follow—a legacy of hard work, integrity, selfless service, and an enduring commitment to ensuring that WERCCS continues to inspire young people for generations to come.
